We have been building aquariums for ten years. Initially we used a syphon box and trickle filter.Totally unreliable and ineffective. Our customers want a low maintenance system with limited maintenance costs. If you have several hours per week available to carry out water changes and buy salt and water then this system is not for you.

Marine fish prefer mature water. water changes can not provide the identical temp/salinity and therefore creates an imbalance in the system killing off valuable bacteria. The water disposed off down the drain contains salt and waste from the tank. putting extra pressure on the water purification system.

We also support the Shark Society of which we are the founder members. Sharks are essential to a health reef, eating dead or dying fish. Our breeding program is intended to study the behavior of these important species.

Are Marine Fish hard to keep
No. As long as you have a filteration system capable of keeping the fish alive and healthy.Good water flow. lots of oxygen and high levels of bacteria. This can not be achieved with external filters.
What do I need from a filter system
The Biological cycle comprises.(1)Fish produce waste.which is ammonia, highly toxic to fish.(2)Bacteria breaks this down to nitrite and then to Nitrate. External filters.Trickle filters do not have the ability to remove Nitrate. Therefore water changes are essential to reduce the nitrate levels.
Why does your filteration system work
The Ammonia is broken down by bio balls.and converted to nitrite and then nitrate.The calurpa(sea Weed) is a plant which absorbs Nitrate as food through its roots like a plant.No water changes are therefore required. Easy maintance and higher stocking levels.
What else do I need to do.
Regular testing of the PH,Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrates. Salt level are essential. Proper recording of the parameters will give early warning of any problems.
What are the disadvantages of Marine fish keeping.
Tap water is totaly unsuitable. The polution levels are higher than the fish can cope with. RO water is essential both for fish and corals.However RO water looses its buffering capacity and there for requires constant buffering.We recommend Water life 8-3 buffer.
What's involved in setting up your system.
We fill the aquarium with RO water and leave it to reach the correct temperature. Add the salt to 1.025 and allow to disolve fully. Add live rock(extra)Bio balls,live sand and bacteria and then leave to mature. generaly 4 weeks.
What is your delivery policy
We have delivered as far North as Durham and south to Devon. We have our own delivery vehicle and we therefore do not use a courier service.Glass is not insured by courier companies.
How long does installation take.
Most of the work is completed in the work shop. In large aquariums the main problem is filling them with RO water some times up to 200 gallons. Once the aquarium is filled we raise the temp to 28 degrees and add the salt.This takes from three hours to five depending on the size of the aquarium.
What is the difference betwen cured rock and uncured rock
We import our live rock from Indonesia. It's sent in a box with damp paper. because the weight of water would add to the frieght costs. Some of the rock dies in transit and this is uncured rock. We cure it by putting it in our curing plant to remove any dead material.
what are the advantages of an Aquarium
In todays home environment.the use of central heating,creates a dry atmoshere. The evaporation of the water from the aquarium provides a more natural environment. The aquarium produces higher levels of oxygen if maintained correctly.
How much does it cost to run
All our systems are designed to use low power consumption pumps and lighting. We do not recommend Metal Halide lighting as this creates heat and uses higher levels of electricity. these are only required for Hard corals which need specialist attention.
Does an Aquarium help to reduce stress.
Many of our customers prefer to watch the aquarium rather than the TV. In a marine aquarium there is always some thing going on.
How does the sump work
The live sand contains minute star fish, crabs copeds and shrimps. Any food comming from the aquarium is eaten by the live creatures in the sump. this eliminates the use of sponge which would trap these particules killing off the live creatures.
Why no Bubble trap.
Marine sea salt contains a huge amount of oxygen. fish/corals and inverts absorb oxygen to survive.The more the better and therefore there is no point in trying to prevent it taking place.
Does a deep bed sand filter work
The natural filteration system in the sea is the live rock. live sand and corals that survive using the natural chemicals in the water.We are trying to recreate the cean not some thing artificial.

We try to replicate the sea. Marine fish and corals unlike tropical fish do not have the ability to adjust to wide variations in the parameters of sea water. the ocean remain fairly constant. Corals will not tolerate temperatures of more than 28 degrees and will die. Fluctuations in currents cause temporary adjustments but generally the sea remains the same. Therefore water changes are detrimental the the balance of the aquarium. it causes stress in the fish. it is more beneficial to manage the water in the aquarium. With a deep bed sand filter water quality remains constant.

The air to water ratio to excluded gases from the water are an essential part of the system. the filter is exposed to oxygen and not sealed in a canister. the bacteria can breath and develop. The filter does not have the ability to cope with added stock.the rule is only add one fish when the ammonia reading is zero then add bacterlife to charge the filter and cope with the additional waste.

HOLE IN THE WALL

There are various ways to achieve a picture wall aquarium. Picture frame on one side as shown below. Cabinet on the other.

Its not practical to build an aquarium the thickness of the wall. the deeper the aquarium the greater the pressure of the water on the sides and base. as follows

600mm high = 10mm glass

750mm high = 12mm glass

900mm high = 15mm glass

1000m high = 19mm glass

1200mm high = 25mm glass

any thing deeper that 1200mm has to be in acrylic.

The thicker the glass the greater the cost. generally 15mm and above is built on site.

Our basic systems are manufactured in pine. this is resistant to salt. MDF,Chipboard etc absorb the moisture. We also build in Hardwood.Oak etc
